It is with great sadness that we must inform you all of the passing of Coach Rick Kabbert.
Rick had been battling the effects of a major cardiac arrest over the last two weeks, and sadly passed away Tuesday evening surrounded by his family. We appreciate the exhausting effort by his doctors, nurses and caregivers at AGH to help him recover, and we thank the incredible medical staff at AGH for their respectful and compassionate care of Rick.
We cannot express the depth of our sorrow for Rick, his sons and his family. This loss is especially hard on all of them as they have been by his side throughout this difficult time, and we all feel their pain. We will continue to remember them in our prayers.
Rick was such an amazing part of the FC Pittsburgh staff and family for several years, and his loss will be a void that will never be filled. As a coach, mentor, leader, and most of all a great friend to everyone he worked with, Rick’s legacy and positive impact will be with us all of our lives. His unceasing care and interest in every young player in his charge has been a shining example of what we all strive to be as better teachers and stewards of the next generation we are fortunate enough to work with.
As a coach, Rick was always learning and working to improve his craft, had been a vital and active participant in our FC Pittsburgh leadership towards improving how we serve our players and their families, and brought out the best in his players even when they didn’t know they could succeed. Rick always believed in everyone!
To all of our FC Pittsburgh Family, we hope you had the chance to get to know Rick, and our promise to you is that we will always honor Coach Rick’s memory at FC Pittsburgh. We will include everyone in the announcement of his memorial services that will be taking place in the near future. Details of the service will be forwarded when we receive that information.
Please take a moment to remember Coach Rick, and have a thought for his family.
